2nd solo Birding trip to Sungei Buloh. Images was very disappointing. Was thinking howcome the image so poor.... For the 1st image in tripod with mirror lockup bright day light still look bad.... cant convince myself. The rest from 2 to 4 handhold without flash and wind blowing the tree and tree was shaking.. I can understand. Last picture 1/1000 focusing on the bird but IQ still poor cant convince myself... Please advice. 1) Tripod 1/125 F8 ISO 100 (Mirror lockup) 2) Handhold without Flash 1/400 F5.6 ISO 100 3) Tripod 1/400 F5.6 ISO 100 (wind blowing at tree, tree was shaking) 4) Handhold Without Flash 1/400 5.6 ISO 100 5) Handhold Without Flash 1/1000 ISO 100

what lens did you used? Are these images heavilly cropped? yr tripod maybe stable but is the boardwalk you are on stable? All these will contribute to image quality.
BTW, luckily you didnt come to join me. The BFO was no where in sight. I only shot a tiny bird.. had not ID it yet, could be a shrike.

All your focus are totally out. At 1/400 should be able to freeze the wind motion. Need to work on your technique. Follow deswitch, he can teach you.
As deswitch had said, you need tripod. All the bird photographers use tripod for 95% of their photos. No choice, you want sharp picture, you need stability.
