Actually 400mm is enough to shoot the moon. Find a place with dark surroundings to get better results. Yr tipod must be very stable and not to forget that the moon orbits round the earth so that will contributes to image quality. Moon is actually light up by the sun so the sunny 16 rule can be applied.
Steve, show us what yr "digiscope" can do leh if you had bought it.
