The new 1D mk III is awesome. But I am dismay of the new EF 16-35mm f2.8L II and 580EX II. These are unnecessary especially the 580EX II. The 580EX was merely 2 years old, and got replaced. Sigh man.....

The new EF 16-35mm seems to have different AL glasses, i.e. ground, replica and GMo. Will this new lens solve the problems of its predecessor?

Sigh man..... well...you are dismayed because your lenses will loose value? Or you're a hardcore fan of the two equipts?else I dont see why you should be dismayed. I'm neither puzzled nor surprised. This is quite expected.

Will this new lens solve the problems of its predecessor? i do think i may improve by quite a bit. reason is because of the front element. it is proven that 77mm is just not enough for the range with F2.8, so the bigger 82mm would improve it i think for a FF

It is just a hobby. Once you have invested, there is no need to look back because depreciation is always present. Maybe you care, but not me. I am just stating the fact why the 580EX mk II is launched at such a early stage, etc. Also, "hardcore of the 2 pieces of the equipment" cited by you makes me laugh. By the way, since u mentioned that it is within your expectation, do u mean that you have insider information from Canon? If that's the case, can you tell us what are the new products launching soon?
