Canon's web site will have the latest firmware. The description of the upgrade will be stated. If yr camera is within the warranty, Canon Service center will do the upgrade for you. but if yr warranty period is over you can either do it yourself or pay them to do it for you.
To upgrade it yourself, its very important to use a fully charged battery of use the power adaptor. I did my own upgrade and it easy and quite fast. Though i was sweating during the process.
Upgrading of firmware is to address some minor issues that consumers feed back to them. If your camera is working fine, upgrading is not necessary cos some of the upgrade is to address issues that you may not even use like compatibility with high capacity memory cards etc.

hi deswitch how do u know if ur camera is not fine? any examples? Canon's website will specify what type of problems that the new firmware resolves. If the problems listed there are not troubling you, then you will not need to re-flash your camera. It is all up to you.
