The EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM is a MUST have lens for traveling. As the focal length speaks for itself, this lens is generally use for landscape photography. But of course, you can use it for other purposes.
Specifications :
This lens is very light and compact in its class; weighing only 385g.
EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM was developed for users who want to achieve full-fledged ultra wide-angle shooting with a DSLR camera. Before the launched of this lens, the widest lens that you can find is either EF 17-40mm f4L or EF 16-35mm f2.8L USM. Unfortunately, due to the 1.6x crop factor of the camera, you are not getting enough angle of view.
The optical design of Canon's new ultra wide-angle lens contributes to a focal range equivalent to 16-35mm in the 35mm format.
Moreover, a combination of advanced optical technologies, including Super UD (ultra-low dispersion) and aspherical lenses, work to effectively correct a variety of aberrations for outstanding image quality throughout the zoom range. The unit also realizes a minimum focusing distance of just 0.24m throughout the entire zoom range.
You will not have any doubt on the IQ of this lens. Check out the sample photos.

What about the drawbacks of this lens? You should avoid taking group photos with this lens due to distortion. You don't want the person to look like an ailen, don't you?
The EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM lens works with all the 1.6x crop factor EOS DSLRs. If you think that you are not going into full frame or 1.3x crop factor camera in the near future, then this is the lens for you.
There are quite no. of wide angle lenses to choose from in the market, either Canon or 3rd party make. Therefore, you have to weight between the cost and functionalty. Sigma has the widest wide angle lens for AP-C cameras, i.e. the 8-16mm f4.5-5.6. We talking about 12.8mm on a AP-C camera such as EOS 550D, 60D and 7D compared to Canon EF-S 10-22mm which stands at 16mm on a AP-C camera. Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 is a hot favourite too. This is mainly due to the large aperture of 2.8, which is useful in low light conditions.
*Can be used on FF cameras
