Why I am not buying Canon compact cameras anymore?
Canon has been rolling out many compact cameras over a short period of time, normally in the range of 1-1.8 years. As a result, you will discover that there aren't many new fuunctions / features being added in. Simply says that the marginal differences between models are quite close.
Firstly, look at the S90 --> S95 --> S100 --> S110 model.
Let compare the two most recent models. What are the differences between S100 and S110? At the first glance on the specifications, they are fairly identical. The main difference between them is that S110 comes with Wi-Fi capability. That's all. So why should you upgrade? Not unless you are new to compact camera. Even so, I won't recommend you to buy any of the S-series.
There are many new functions / features that will help you in taking a photo. One of them is the ability to take panaromic pictures on the camera instead of sitching photos in post-processing. This feature is common nowadays in other brands such as Fujifilm and Sony. However, I know that some will argue that such feature is not necessary. But I beg to differ. Only when you need such feature, then you will know the frustration of not taking panaromic pictures at your tip of your finger rather than post processing. I do not have the luxury of post processing all the times. If I can instantly take a panaromic photo with my camera, why not?
I have gone through the high-end Canon compact cameras such as the S110, G15, G1X, etc and found no such feature. In fact, all Canon compact cameras' functions / features are similar, only tweak here and there. I do not see any technological breakthrough.
If you are seriously consider to get a reasonablely priced compact camera Fujifilm X10 or XF1.
