House Rules[/u]
In order to make the gallery sub-forums a more harmonize place for members to post their photos for critiques, it is necessary to set some house rules in order to prevent misunderstanding and miscommunication.
Many a time, we tend to forget certain basic ethics, courtesy, etc, and take things at our own hands without taking into account of the other party’s feeling, reputation, etc.
Yes, no doubt we are living in the Internet era, but that doesn’t mean that we can take things for granted.
Newbies will never benefit from unconstructive comments because they will never get anything out of it.
Therefore what are unconstructive comments? Just to name a few examples.
1) Your photos looked uninteresting.
2) Your photos really suck, trash them immediately.
The above examples are just some examples to illustrate the point that such comments are unnecessary or uncalled for unless you can describe, propose some forms of technicalities, etc to substantiate your stand. Please be a bit more precise or concise on your points so that the thread starters or other members could understand your points. Do not keep people in suspense.
Remember, Photography is a form of art, thus it is very subjective. Who is there to judge your work other than yourself? For those who think that he / she understands photography, think again.
All unconstructive comments shall be deleted without prior notice to the poster.[/color]
What are good critiques?
1) Constructive comments / suggestions on how to improve ones photo(s).
2) Cite reason(s) on why do you think this photo is well or badly taken.
Some guidelines for those who want to give photo critiques.
i) Composition / Framing (e.g. how do you find the perspective, angle, horizon)
ii) Exposure / Tones (e.g. over or under exposed, contrast, highlights, high or low key, shutter speed or aperture value used,)
iii) Color / WB (e.g. how to meter / custom WB)
iv) Sharpness / Resolution (e.g. hand or camera shake)
v) Post Processing (e.g. how to use post processing techniques / methods)
vi) Workflow (e.g. how to process digital images)
vii) Artistic Merits
Posting an image for critique is for the sole and single purpose of getting feedback. Note that feedback can be both good and bad. Therefore, please be prepared to take both in good faith.
At all times, please refrain from posting personal or insidious remarks meant to degrade, humiliate or otherwise disparage a fellow member's postings (image or comments). Keep the comments strictly pertaining to the image, and not the member.
