Hi Bro, before you talk about posing a model. There are a few things that you need to do first.
1) Get a good make-up artist to do a good make-over.
2) Lighting, you must understand the positioning of lighting, effects, etc.
3) Stray hairs, etc that will spoil your photo.
Once you settled those things above, then you can begin to pose the model. I assume that you are talking about newbie models because professional models will know how to pose based on the themes, etc.
1) Build up the rapport with the model. You must make her relax, laugh, sometimes, some jokes to relax the mood, etc. The key word is "relax".
2) No mass-org kind of shoot. Shooting in numbers will cause the model to lose focus / concentration, and also tense up.
3) Based on the theme that you have in mind, ask the model to pose, direct her, such as where to place her hands, legs, etc.

Brudder USM,
Sorry to come back to this thread.
Just realised that I might want to specialise in this field. Just a question on your previous post... when you described.... you only pose newbie models... But if an experienced model is posing accordingly.. but if you would like her to do something in particular... what's the best way...??
Cheers

Also, the personality and character of the model play a part too.

hahaha... brudder Ang...
The trick of the matter is.... if can get good deal on 2nd hand lens... go for it mah.. can save abit of money.... so far... my only lens that's brand new is the 75-300. My 17 to 85mm 2nd hand... save about 300 liao mah...
So... if I buy a 100 mm macro at 2nd hand... say... 650... then.. I save another 300... so... got 600 liao to buy USM's 135mm... the rest got to beg liao loh... lol....

Cheers
