Get a 2 gb CF x 2 instead of a 4 bg card. This is in case that the CF card is corrupted, at least you still have another to use.

It is time for you to look at the future now. Wow sounds heavy. You have 2 1Gb and considering another 4 Gb which cost between 100 to 200 and you then have 6 Gb - a lot. If you shoot in raw 2Gb should give you 250 shots, so, you have a total of 750 but normally when I go on a weeks holiday shoot I normally end up with around 1200 shots, so, do I buy some more or do I go and buy an external CF card HD 60 or 80Gb that serves as an external HD as well as for CF card download (I bought the Nexto OTG 80 Gb from East Gear for $269(cannot view photos). The choice and decision is yours.

I also facing this question too.. But maybe I just get 2 x 2gb ba... cheaper that way also. i think for 400D is different, if i am not wrong if shooting with Jpeg and Raw, it is only 48 shoots for 1 GB. total >300 shoots for 6GB. i did consider the portable HD reader. i was quated 99 for digimate III w/o any HD. for long trips i usually shoot about 200+ for a whole day of shooting. i can get UltraIII 4GB or UltraIII 2GB . so i deciding now.

10mp cam ma... but if you shoot on jpeg and raw on 400D I think better get a larger CF and digimate III too... shoot shoot shoot then store and emptied the CF then fire again..

Just shoot JPEG (Fine & High), solve e problem. Travel photos dont usually get enlarged more than S8R.
I will only shoot RAW if I take commercial or corporate shoots - products, people, etc... nvr know how designers will crop ur photos.
If you find that your exposures are wrong, you can preview the image and shoot again if necessary. If you cant take proper readings, just use P mode all the way, hehe... no need to waste precious memory real estate by shooting RAW...

If i'm not mistaken. the OTG 60GB is less than $200 from East gear.
I have 2 x 1 Gb CF cards, 1 2 Gb SD and 1 8Gb MD. otal 12GB still not enough esp if you have back to back events where you dont have time to download yr photos. A potable hard drive is more advisable and useful if you go for long trips.
