I am using the Teleplus extension tube on my EF 100mm f2.8 Macro lens and the AF still work. I think that you are trying to shoot beyond a certain range to infinity which is not possible when you mounted a extension tube on any lens. Remember the purpose of extension tube? Lastly, bring your set up on this Friday Photography session if you still cannot figure out the problem.

It's a totally different system, sister. If you listen to him and buy the original one, it will cost you a bomb. Drop by on Friday so that I can talk more about it.

USM is right, with the tube on, yr maximum reach will be very near. alternative, you can test out before buying. most shop will let you do that and you can also test out our gears too by joining outings.
