LL14 I really need advice on this one. The day was hazy with strong sun light. I didn't have a polariser & tried a variety of tricks to get the correct exposure. I played around with metering; ISO; AE whilst trying out manual/shutterspeed or aperture priority mode without much success! Please share your thoughts on what settings I might have used!

Firstly, looks like this was taken at around noon and the sun is harsh and the shadow is dark and short, suppose you can't help it if the tour is at noon when you reach there. when you have a complex shot with wide dark and bright sections, metering and zoning on each section to get the f stop reading may help and then selecting an exposure that will allow you to dodge and burn to bring out the details. the other thing is there must be rice terraces facing the sun on the right and shooting those might reduce the variance of light.

I think we both toured Hanoi and I have similar shots, 2 of them are shown here, similar to what you are showing, one way to improve is to compare other people's shots of similar scenarios and if theirs is better you can learn from it, if not nothing lost.

Hi Cecil,
The first image didn't download, but I like the second image. I particularly like the graphic image of the padi fields; some thing I tried to capture, but haven't quite done.
Keep sharing - it is an excellent way for me to learn!

Hi Mandy, what exactly do you have to show to the viewers for the above 2 scenic shots?

If you right click on the "x" and select show picture it will show. There seems to be something wrong with my link at pbase, wonder if anybody know what.

Cecil - now I can see your first shot (but not ur second). Its very moody and has a feeling that the walls are closing in. Nice hue to the sky also.
Your shots are more unique too; mine are just picture postcard at the moment.
Thanks for sharing your photos, it helps me visualise photographs for the future.

LL18 3/3 I think the centre of the sun is pure white, which means upon printing it won't look as good. Does any one have advice on how to improve the blown out parts for printing? Thanks

very nice - need filtering for the sun most likely 4 stops or more, think it will be much nicer if the top portion of the sun is crop off so that only the ray coming down can be seen
