LL20 A little bit too picture postcard. Also, the ear rings are not sharp enough. This was a hard balance between depth of field and fast shutter speed.

LL19 I tried using a method of smoothing complextions in this piccie. Hi Mandy, Nice background and color. But what lens are you using? It seems that her nose is slightly distorted.

Hi, here are the photo's details: f5.6, 1/80, ISO 400 with 300 mm G lens with Nikon D50.
I was sat in her coffee shop enjoying the evening; she was on the porch steps.
I don't know if the lens compressed her features? I tend to believe its just the way her nose grew!
Thanks Mandy

LL21 I'm starting an on-line course & the next selection of photos are for my first lesson. The assignment is "My Home Town'; these piccies are a series of 6 to depict what Singapore means to me. Thanks to USM for showing me how to use selective colouring.

You have really put them into practice after my workshop. ;D iboey, I didn't cover this in my last workshop due to time constraint.

LL21 A thematic qn, why did you choose 2 skateboarders to represent what Singapore means to you. And what's the purpose of having colours only for the skateboards? Just curious...

Iboey - I'm happy to share techniques, but I'm not sure if I can explain it clearly! Very simply (& pls correct me USM / Cecil etc): copy master layer (control J) make one colour layer make one B&W layer place coloured layer on top of stack Mask it in black (black to conceal) Paint in white (white to reveal) over the skateboards.

BigU2fan - LOL - ppl on the course are already asking me to defend my choices - which is a revealing exercise on individual perceptions / artistic licence etc. Phew, I won't go into a philisophical discussion.
I chose 'bad boyz' for a number of reasons: 1. It made me go out of my comfort zone and talk to these teenagers. Rather than being 'tough' they giggled as I shouted 'think James Dean'. A nice ending to my scarey rite of passage.
2. Skating boarding is probably illegal in public places and I liked the contrast of conservative traditions and rebellious teenagers who are the same the world over.
3. As soon as I saw the colourful undersides of the skateboards and the sweaty, dark clothes I knew this would be a great image to try my skills in CS2 (I think this is the first time I have mimiced USMs great photo with the stripy jumper).
